The USS Alabama has a 680 feet from stem to stern, it is one of two remaining South Dakota-class battleships left. The USS Alabama was commissioned in 1942 and decommissioned in 1947. It was retired in 1962 and brought to Mobile Bay. The USS Alabama and opened as a museum ship in 1965. The USS Alabama is owned by the state of Alabama and managed by USS Battleship Commission. It is a National Historic Landmark.
